Mamas, I have found a new game changer for you. I may be the last one to this party, but I just discovered Amazon’s try before you buy Prime Wardrobe service. Prime Wardrobe opened for all Prime members this summer, and it is definitely worth checking out!
For full transparency this post contains affiliate links, meaning, I may earn a small commission if you happen to click on a link and make a purchase (at no cost to you). It also allows me to see what things you are interested in and helps me create future relevant posts. These small commissions help support my blog (and my kids’ never ending snacking habits!), so please know that I really appreciate you following along!
How Prime Wardrobe Works
Prime Wardrobe allows Prime shoppers to order clothes, shoes, and accessories to try on at home without immediately charging your credit card. You are able to order a minimum of 3 and maximum of 8 items. Once they arrive on your doorstep you have seven days to decide whether to keep the items or send them back. Members are not charged for anything when they order, and are only charged for any items they decide to keep when the seven days are up. You can then login to your Amazon account to do your final check out with your purchases and returns. Amazon provides a resealable bag or box as well as a prepaid shipping label for any items going back. Returns may be dropped off at UPS locations.

Why Should You Try Prime Wardrobe?
Prime Wardrobe was created to make your shopping experience easy, and I found that is definitely the case! Here are a few reasons why I liked using this service:
- No additional cost to Prime members – Prime Wardrobe is included with a Prime membership.
- Choose from a large selection of clothing, shoes, and accessories for women, men and children.
- Try on clothes, shoes, and accessories in the comfort of your own home! This is a great benefit if you don’t like to shop! Even if you do enjoy shopping, the reality is that sometimes life just gets too busy to get to your favorite clothing store.
- Love that the charges don’t immediately show up on my credit card and I don’t have to worry about a refund.
- Free shipping and free returns.
- Returns are so simple!
So far I haven’t found many downsides to the program, but there are a couple things to note. Orders take longer to arrive than the typical Prime order. Mine arrived in about 5 business days though, so not too much of a wait.
Also, not every Amazon clothing item is available in Prime Wardrobe. Just something to be aware of as you are shopping. For items that are available with the service, you will see a notice about it being Prime Wardrobe eligible underneath the price of each item.
While Amazon does not charge you when you order, my credit card did have a $1 charge on it after I placed the order. However, Amazon uses this to verify the card with a temporary authorization and then the charge should disappear.
What I Ordered
Even though not every wardrobe item is part of Prime Wardrobe, there are still a TON of items that are. I chose to keep it simple this time and only ordered items from J.Crew. Did you even know that Amazon sells J.Crew clothing?? Amazon carries items from their Mercantile line for both women and men.
Mercantile Women’s Solid Tie Waist T-Shirt
I ordered this in heather grey in two different sizes, and it is one of the items I actually ended up keeping. I found it fit true to size. The tie waist tee also comes in four other colors. It will be cute to layer under cardigans in the fall/winter.
J.Crew Mercantile Women’s Flutter Sleeve T-Shirt
The smallest size available in this was a S, so I ordered it in Ivory. The top fit fine despite not being my normal size, and the flutter sleeves add cute detailing to an otherwise simple top. Comes in three colors. This one is a keeper (but I clearly need to iron or steam it before I wear it out of the house)!
J.Crew Mercantile Women’s Highrise Skinny Jean
I’ve been wanting to try a pair of higher rise jeans and I loved the button detail on this pair. The jeans were pretty comfortable, although I haven’t had a pair of high rise jeans in a long time, so the higher fit took a few minutes to get used to! Ordered my normal size, and despite the fact that I liked how they fit, I am going to send these back. The denim is a darker wash than I initially thought, and since I recently bought two pair of darker wash jeans at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale I’m going to hold off on another pair.
J.Crew Mercantile Women’s Camo Crewneck Sweater
Camo is everywhere this season and I have been looking for a new camo sweatshirt or sweater to add to my wardrobe. The sweater is darling, but I am debating on if I should send it back and try a size up. The sleeves hit perfectly, maybe even a teeny tiny bit too short, and since it is 100% cotton I don’t want to risk it shrinking in the wash. Note that this sweater is lighter weight, so a good piece for fall or spring. I will definitely need to layer in the winter because I am always cold!
J.Crew Mercantile Women’s Cascading Cardigan
I also ordered this ivory cascading cardigan (and yes, that is the tie waist t-shirt in another color underneath!). For me it fit true to size, and it also comes in three other colors. I am on the fence about this cardigan. It is really cute, but I just don’t know if I need another cardi! 😉
Final Thoughts on Prime Wardrobe
Will I use this again? You bet! I love shopping in a retail store, but with three kids I often just don’t have the time. And if I am being completely honest, DO NOT want to take them into a clothing store. Well, at least not my three year old. Or all three of them at once…That always turns into a circus. In my post about how to survive shopping with a toddler you can read a little bit more about how I cope with taking three of them with me clothing shopping. It will get easier someday, right? In the meantime, Prime Wardrobe and online shopping to the rescue! 😉
Sometimes I do feel guilty about all of the boxes and packaging that arrive on my doorstep. However, deliveries can be such a time saver! We are also big recyclers here in the PNW, so I do try to make sure that we either reuse boxes or they are recycled properly.
I am also excited to continue to search through all of the brands and options Prime Wardrobe has available. I know I have only just scratched the surface!
Have you tried Prime Wardrobe before and was it helpful to you? Would love to hear your experience or about any great clothing brands you have found on Amazon!
I am obsessed with Prime wardrobe! I have found so many cute things through this service!
I am excited to look at all it has to offer! Glad to hear you have had a great experience using Prime Wardrobe!
How is it I have never explored this! You’re awesome!! Definitely trying it!
Thank you! I couldn’t believe I hadn’t heard about it yet either. Hope it works for you!
Interesting. I’ll have to check it out. Do you use StitchFix? I’m curious to see if it’s any better.
Hi Jessica! I did try Stitch Fix a couple of times, but never ended up keeping anything. It may just be that I am too picky and fare better when picking out my own clothing! 😉
Wow! I didn’t know Amazon had this program. I’ll have to check it out!
I was surprised I hadn’t heard of it before too! Hope you find some fun things!
I pretty much do this anyways any time I shop with my Amazon prime account. I love knowing that I can send it back. But I love the wardrobe idea even more!
Amazon Prime is the best!
Oh I totally need to try this soon!!
I am excited to explore Prime Wardrobe a bit more. Hope you find that it is helpful to you!
I have actually been wondering about this. My wardrobe needs A LOT of attention 😭
Ashley, this may be a good option for you to try! I’d say start simple with a few pieces that you are really in need of and go from there. Take baby steps!
Love your shoes in your 1st pic. I have Amazon Prime never even knew there was a wardrobe. Thanks for the info!
Thank you! They are these from Lucky: https://amzn.to/2CiNN4j.
Love these booties – bought them last year and they are so comfortable!
Thank you so much for this post. I’ve been wondering about Prime Wardrobe. I like how you can choose your own clothes and there is no cost on the front end. It’s like StitchFix but better.
You are very welcome! I agree! I have tried Stitch Fix but it wasn’t for me. I ended up sending everything back during the three months I tried it. Think I am too picky and better at picking my own clothing, but I do know that some people love it!
I’m Prime obsessed and had no idea this existed! Sounds fantastic!
You will have to try it! What did we do before Prime?? 🙂
I have been debating, for quite awhile, on trying this!
You should try it Tonya! One of the things I love about it is that there is no upfront cost. You just have to remember to “check out” and send the items you don’t want to keep back on time.
How have I never heard of this?! I have seen subscription boxes with a similar concept, but had no idea I could do this through Amazon! I will have to try this out, thanks for sharing!
Of course! I have tried Stitch Fix, but it didn’t work for me personally. Know others who love it though! Just have to do what works for you!
What great way to buy cloths.
I am in love with online shopping and this indeed is a great guiltfree shopping method
I agree! I guess guilt free until you end up keeping everything! 😉
I love Amazon Prime but I have yet to look into this option. I have 3 kids so this would be an amazing time and sanity saver! You were able to get some really cute things!
Thanks! I think it is a great option for busy mamas! I know how hard it is to try to clothes shop with three kids in tow… 😉
Big fan of anything that has to deal with amazon! I never knew about this option! This is so great cant wait to try it out! Thanks!
Hope you find that it is helpful to you!
Those are all great pieces! I am personally too busy and just too annoyed (lol) to go to the store and deal with shopping with my kids in tow. I have heard about Amazon Wardrobe.. I’ll definitely have to give this a try.
Hope this works out for you Marysa! I hear ya about shopping with kids in tow…it can be so hard!
