So these oatmeal chocolate chip cookies don’t technically qualify as healthy…but as Michael Pollan would say, “eat all the junk food you want as long as you cook it yourself” and “break the rules once in a while.”
In honor of National Oatmeal Cookie Day on Monday, we did just that. Although with a slight twist. If I am going to eat a cookie, it pretty much has to have chocolate chips in it! The following is our family’s favorite oatmeal chocolate chip cookie recipe. Trust me, they will go fast!
Recipe Notes
Unfortunately I have no idea where the original recipe came from! The recipe has been on file in my notebook for years though. I have played around with the flour, and currently am making them with 1 cup of white flour and 1 cup of whole wheat pastry flour. Because that one cup of wheat flour makes them so much healthier… ;-). You could just go ahead and make them with all white flour if you prefer.
My goal is to eventually experiment and make an actual healthier version of oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. For now though, we are going with the good old sugar and butter filled version!
Cooking Time
I always struggle with what to estimate as the cooking time for baked goods because everyone’s oven temperature is different! My oven almost always takes a few minutes longer than the recommended baking time for anything. These cookies took about 12-14 minutes to bake in my oven. I usually under estimate on my baking recipes because I don’t want anyone to burn their goodies! So keep that in mind when baking these oatmeal chocolate chip cookies.
When baking I have also found that the darker my baking pan, the darker the bottoms of my baked goods turn out. I use parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to solve that problem.
Hope you enjoy these oatmeal chocolate chip cookies as much as my family does!
